I know we are always trying to avoid hazards: For those that park at the Split and ride the training loop....or for those that ride between the Casino and the Split...there is now a project starting that may affect your normal biking. There are several trailers in the LA DOTD lot at the Split. I chatted with Matt Milton of Beard Construction about their project for the US Army Corps of Engineers. The plan is the remove the temporary bagged sand from the levee top and raise the levee. Matt indicated that they will have up to 200-300 workers between the Casino and the Split over the next 6 months with lots of trucks, dirt, earth movers, etc.. I envision lots of sand and dirt on the roadway, so biking may be challenging. Parking will be limited, and do not block the entrance to the DOTD lot or you may be towed. The project will gear up to a 7 day a week, 24 hour/D operation. They don't anticipate closing the road like last year's work near LSU. But you may want to avoid this area for the next 6 months.
