Saturday 9:00 a.m. Meet at 741 Hillcrest rd, Mobile Al 36609 which is a krispy kreme. Next to Krispy Kreme is a huge parking lot in which to park. Depart 9:00 a.m. sharp and ride one lap at USA trails (12 miles) and proceed over to Chickasabogue for one lap (11 miles) and then ride back to cars. Total ride should be 23 off road and 21 on the road. Bring money for lunch/beer/margaritas whatever after the ride. There is a good mexican place or there is a texas roadhouse, not sure where we'll go, group decides!

Pace will be a moderate, double pacelined ride averaging between 18 and 22mph depending on wind. Distances of 53, 46, and 40 miles are available. New riders are welcome but bring a buddy just in case the group separates.

Beast Master mountain bike race

The West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the inaugural Beast Master mountain bike race on Saturday, November 7, 2009. This time trial format race takes place on the challenging Beast trail located at the West Feliciana Sports Park on Hwy 61. Race registration starts at 7 am with the Beginner race starting at 9 am. Pennington Biomedical Research Center is conducting a study

Good Afternoon,

Pennington Biomedical Research Center is conducting a study on the behalf of Gatorade Sports Science Institute to examine the effectiveness of a dietary supplement on cycling performance.

Goals of the study

One: To determine whether a new dietary ingredient will increase the use of body fat during exercise.

Two: To examine whether those using the supplement will increase 20 km time trial (TT) performance after a period of strenuous exercise.

Who is eligible?

• Men between 18 and 35 years of age

• Capable of attaining a V02 max: 50 ml/kglmin. This would be equivalent to a good Category IV or Category III+ rider.

• Must be willing to commit to a testing protocol that will last -40-days.

What the test entails

The following tests will be performed before and after four (4) weeks of supplementation:

• A V02max test with the determination of VO2max, lactate thresholds and the corresponding power output associated with each.

• A two (2) hour ride at an established percentage of your lactate threshold. Several blood samples will be taken during this portion of the test; however, we will take no muscle
biopsies.

• A 20 km TT to see how fast you can complete the TT.

Upon completion of the study you will receive:

• $200

• A full report detailing your V02max, lactate threshold, heart rates, and power outputs associated with your test.

• A report detailing your time to complete each time trial along with your average heart rate and average power output during each test.

• Various schwag courtesy of Gatorade

Because of the upcoming holidays we will enroll participants until approximately the 15 of November. Following the Christmas break we will start enrollment again after about 10 January.

LAB "Bronze" to be presented at 4PM Wed at Metro Council Meeting (28 Oct, 3rd floor of EBR Government Building)

Gil Morin of City Parish Planning will be presenting Mayor-President Holden the "Bronze" Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists. This will occur as part of the Presentations and Special Recognitions section on the Metro Council Agenda. (5th of on the agenda, and will occur shortly after 4PM start of the meeting)

The Bronze status is a result of bicycle friendly progress (including plans) by DPW, Mayors Office, BREC, BRASS, and CRPC. If the commitment continues, there are Silver, Gold, and Platinum bike friendly awards to aspire to.

BRBC is partnering with Louisana State Parks for the Fall Century

BRBC is partnering with Louisana State Parks for the Fall Century, Sunday 11 October from Centenary College in Jackson (4 blocks north of LA-10 on LA-952).

We have rest stops at Audubon State Park (Oakley) and Rosedown which have tours availalbe (and are included with the ride), plus two more traditional SAGS's and a roving SAG.

Port Hudson will have a Civil War cannon demonstration at 12:00 after the ride. Quarter, Half and Metric century routes have time to tour each of the parks, and still make it back to Centenary for a the traditional BRBC post ride meal. (Pastalaya, Taco Soup, Black Beans and Rice, Drinks and Dessert)

Site opens at 7 AM, and enter by the north gate. Preregister on line at Active.com or at the event. (save $5 by registering on line)

2. Continue on Hwy 61 to LA-68. Turn right onto LA 68 (LA 68 is south of St. Francisville).
3. Continue on LA-68 until it intersects with Hwy 10 at the red light. Turn left onto LA-10
4. Watch your speed through Jackson, then at the hill after the "bottom" turn right on College Street LA-952. Centenary College will be 4 blocks past the turn on the right.

Rocktoberfest Criterium on Sunday, October 11, 2009

Come join us for the 10th annual Rocktoberfest Criterium on Sunday, October 11. This year we return to Lakeshore Drive for the first time since 2004. We'll be using the same course we used for the Tour de Louisiane. You can pre-register online at http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9438. This will be the last race of the 2009 LAMBRA road racing season and rumor has it that everyone will be meeting at the Kona Cafe' (7306 Lakeshore Drive between Robt. E. Lee and the lake) afterwards for a little end-of-season gathering. Please come out and support the race and celebrate another successful road season with us.

Pre-register online at BikeReg.com (online registration closes at midnight on Friday, Oct. 9). Race day registration opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes 15 minutes before each race. COURSE and EVENT INFORMATION
The 10th annual Lakeshore Rocktoberfest has developed into the area's classic end-of-season road event. This year we will be racing on Lakeshore Drive, using the same course as this year's Tour de Louisiane. This is a challenging 0.9 mi. L-shaped circuit that crosses the levee twice each lap.
