Bike month (April)

Bike month (April) are kicking off this afternoon. I know the calendar still says March, but we are in the season of preparation and declaration. If you live in or near Iberville Parish, bike month begins TONIGHT (20 March) at the council meeting in Plaquemine at 6:30 PM. I will be there, please join me. Thursday night 22 March there will be a declaration of bike month in West Baton Rouge Parish, also 6:30 PM at the court house in Port Allen. I cannot make this meeting, and hopefully some of you in the area can. 1. Bike Month Declaration at council meetings – (Courtney to develop dates) a. Iberville Parish – 20 Mar @ 6:30 PM (Plaquemine Courthouse) b. West Baton Rouge – 22 Mar @ 6:30 PM (Port Allen)) c. East Baton Rouge – 28 Mar @ 4:00 PM (City Hall) d. Ascension Parish – 05 Apr @ 6:00 PM (Donaldsonville Courthouse) e. Livingston Parish – (Still TBD) 2. Velo Louisiane – March 31st and April 1st – (See attached schedule from website) a. BRBC and BRASS sponsor 8:00 AM ride to Farr Park event, and ride to Market day after event. – (Louis Leggio to lead) b. EBR Mayor’s Family Bike Ride – 9-Noon @ Farr Park c. Blessing of the Bikes @ Farr Park Trailhead – 9:30 a.m. @ Pavilion d. Dedication of new trail section from Farr Park to Skip Bertman – 9:40 a.m. @ Pavillion e. Ride from Farr Park to Skip Bertman Trailhead – 9:45 a.m. f. Ribbon Cutting on new trail section – 9:50 a.m. on ramp at the foot of the levee (River Road remains closed) There are more activities to come, and they will be posted as they become finalized.. . . watch your IN box as Bike to Work week becomes a reality (sponsors being lined up, T-shirts being made for participants, and FREE BREAKFAST at selected locations. Spring Ride & 5K honoring Scott Hoppmeyer

On September 10, 2011 our friend Scott Hoppmeyer was badly injured in a cycling accident. We are hosting a 25, 42 & 66 mile bike ride on Sunday April 29th along with a 5K event to help raise money for Scott. Belles on Bikes Event

Ladies, Belles on Bikes is back again. The recreational ride for women will again be hosted on the Mississippi River bluff in Natchez, MS this year on Saturday, April 28th. Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting

You are cordially invited to attend the next Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting, Thursday March 8 at the Carver branch of the EBR library from 4-5:30 PM. The library is located at 720 Terrace just south of downtown Baton Rouge, two blocks from Highland Rd. Agenda is attached, as is the schedule for Bike Month, and the notes from the January 2012 meeting (for approval at this meeting) The schedule is shortened to end at 5:30 so that we can have time for the Bike Month Planning subcommittee meeting at the same location, which you are also welcome to stay for.
